Please help out with races and anything you’ve been to….things don’t need to stick to fell running, the more diverse the better…

Eyam Half Marathon:- I’d forgotten about this, so a most welcome reminder from Mike Nolan:- “I know it’s only a road race but it’s as close as one comes to  fell running. According to my watch 13.1 miles and 2000ft (much more than advertised!). As usual plenty of Dark Peakers in attendance about 14 I think and a large field (450). Andy Thake won again in 75 mins – hands up who can run that fast on the flat – I was first vet in 8th place but we could only manage 4th team behind Hallamshire, Dewsbury and somewhere called Totley. Helen and Kirsty both got under 2 hours but I reckon the hills are worth 5-10 mins on your flat time. Check out the website  for full results and details of next years race.”

Rigby Round:- This is one of those long, long, long things, around the Cairngorms. Ian Winterburn and Nicky had a crack at it this weekend, the report is here.

Jura:- Results As ever, the club out in depth and strength. Marvellous !

Bamford Sheep Dog Trials: .results

Helvellyn – A classic trip of fell running. Clear, cool on top, sunny, and once up on the ridge past the Dodds marvellous views of everywhere. photos. . results. Many of us guilty to overstepping the allowance of two cakes at the end – well, there were loads left on the table…

Carneddau:- Results  .Al Ward “went to Wales to do the Carneddau race – bit warm but fantastic race, (especially the drop off Yr Elen and the climb up Gyrn Wigau near the end!).As usual, not the only Dark Peaker there – ran round a lot of it with Dave (?)Alcock from Buxton (Sorry if I got your surname wrong Dave). We had a cracking run (despite having to run to the map all the way.) Dave ran out of legs just before the last climb and Tim Higginbottom got between us but we got 1st and 3rd  – not bad for an ‘away run’. For anyone who either hasn’t done it or couldn’t see it when they did, I don’t think that there’s a better AM in the calendar.”

Austwick Amble :- just Steve Storey there, running well for 7th place.

Crowden.    results
Lakeland 24 hrs Attempt Steve Birkinshaw “dropped out at Wasdale after 16 hours about 1 and a half hours down on schedule. I am disappointed but conditions were not right and this is an excellent record. I will try again next year. Thanks for everyone’s support.”

Hutton Roof:- Inter-Counties Championships – Manchester 24pts . Yorks 25pts. Cumbria 26pts. for the Men….  results (as runners are often by Counties, please let me know if you’ve been missed off..) 345 runners, some huge bottlenecks?

Hallam Chase –

Weekend in Wales:- Ian Fitzpatrick is “planning to do the Paddy Buckley round, and had to cancel an attempt last weekend due to the weather, unfortunately most of the supporters are now doing other things on the date I’m planning the attempt on! So I wonder if anyone is available for a weekend in Wales I’m planning on starting on Friday evening on the 29th May at the traditional Dark Peak time at Nantmoor. If anyone can help please either Ian.Fitzpatrick@shsc.nhs.uk or call 07940 593538″

Three Peaks Yacht Race. Ian Winterburn mentions that ” there are two boats looking for last minute replacements for injured runners. Both are competitive boats with fast runners. The down side is that it’s the same weekend as the DP BG attempt.” So if you’re looking for that sea cruise, get in touch with Ian. everythingoutdoor@btopenworld.com
