FRA Calendar:- is apparently coming after Christmas, but the FRA website has January and February races in it.
Calderdale:- Some Comments coming through, please help out with more, it’s good to know what happened on the other Legs and in the other Teams…
Firstly, many thanks to everyone who represented, some at very late notice, and especially to the team organisers, a difficult, fraught task.
“A” Team
1 Salford 6:01:33
2 Dark Peak 6:06:01
3 Pudsey & Bramley 6:09:42
4 Bingley 6:10:56
Vets.
1 Clayton – 6.34.32
2 Dark Peak 6.53.05
Team Selection Policy comes into this. I happen to think the present policy is correct, of putting everything into the Senior Team. If we had packed the Vets Team, as did the winners, we’d have easily won that category…..
Ladies.
1 Ilkley 7.26.21
7 Dark Peak (62nd) 8.08.59
“B” Team (77th) 8.33.16
Mementos:-
Kirsty has the ladies box and Penny has the B team box.
Seniors – Rob Little has those for Neil, Matt Crane, Pete, John Rocke – the others should have found a home.
Vets – I’ve got Joe’s, Matt has Mick Stenton’s. Alan Ward will pass on Simon’s and Rich’s. The others – Gavin, Steve, Mike E, Dave Allen, Darryl, Ian, Jim – are with Alan. He’ll take them along to this Sunday’s Crashout.
From Kirsty:-“The Ladies Race:
“Rachel and Pippa had a storming run on first leg to finish first in front of all the ladies (and the DP Vets!)teams. Debbie & Rhian ran fantastically holding the lead for much of second leg and hanging on to the 2 teams which made it past them, outsprinting one to finish 2nd. Penny and Niaomi had a great run on third leg, with only a couple of teams perhaps slipping past (though they may have been mixed teams…)and they held off the B team (very important as it was Penny’s husband Nick chasing them!). Kirsty & Chaanah then took over for a muddy 4th leg on the moors with the tactic of Kirsty dragging Chaanah down the hills and Chaanah dragging Kirsty up the hills hopefully working (there was more up than down!) we caught 1 team who tussled with us and the B-team passed us 3 times!!j o & Brenda had a solid performance starting in the mass start, Brenda enjoying her first run on English soil (well MUD) outside Sheffield. Lynn & Jenny also had a mass start running well finishing strongly and managing to keep the injuries at bay! So the final result 55th (1 place better than last year!) but as yet the place in the ladies race is unknown. But we celebrated with a team coffee/tea and cake(S) anyway as all ran well and enjoyed the day.
Thanks everyone for running, for swapping legs last minute and especially to Naomi and Jenny for stepping in at the 11th hour!”
From Lynn:- “A huge thanks to Kirsty for organising the women’s team and not throwing in the towel despite numerous people dropping out including 2 on Saturday! I hope the enthusiastic comments from all the women made it feel worth all the effort. We had quite a few new members in the team so thanks to everyone who took part and well done. If you enjoyed it put Sunday Feb 1st in your diary for the Pennine Bridleway relay! “
DT – Decent weather, cold but alright once we got going. But after Saturday’s rain, very, very wet. Leg 5 was the wettest I’ve done it, holes of mud that had to be squelched through. We only saw one Team, Keighley, who were ahead of us to start, and overtook us again near the finish. The worth of knowing the Leg.
For the Seniors, Dave and Pete were first at Leg 3 finish, but bearing down were Salford, who took Leg 4 very strongly. Bingley caught up well, but we pulled away on the last two legs. Neil – Comments – comes in with the impressive early Legs. Seems to me that we could win it, but it needs everyone out in force.
Going to Mytholmroyd wasn’t as good as going to the finish, I never saw the Teams finish, and can’t help with Ladies and B Team.
Understandably Mytholmroyd wouldn’t be on the way home for many, so the Mementos weren’t picked up for many teams? And it’s a good glass paperweight of Stoodley Pike.
