Ian Hodgson Relays:- A shame to miss out on the event, but the heavy rain seems to have left no alternative. We must be thankful for all the organisers’ hard work with all the preparations and difficulties. So what about Langdale parking, I wonder…
From Lynn – Dark Peak ladies day out round the Ian Hodgson!:- “Fortunately we were already half way up the M6 when we got the news that the IH was cancelled otherwise we wouldn’t have left Sheffield and it would have been criminal to miss such a glorious day in the Lakes. We did begin to question our sanity as we aquaplaned our way up the motorway. However, safe in the knowledge that we had a warm dry house to stay in courtesy of Janet’s parents and a stunning forecast for Sunday we decided to carry on. We woke up to bright sunshine and me, Debbie and Janet headed for Patterdale with the intention of doing a complete circuit of the relay route (minus the drops back into the valley). Mike who was suffering from a really heavy cold but hadn’t wanted to let the team down headed off to drink tea and read the Sunday papers with friends in Cockermouth! As we arrived another team were just heading off, they were the first of several groups we encountered during the day on our way round the route. Although it was pretty cool on the tops it was an absolutely stunning day. It may not have been as exciting as winning the event last year but we certainly had a grand day out! What a shame for the organisers to have got everything in place and then have to call it off, it is a favourite event of the year for all 3 of us so we will look forward to next year!”

DPFR Top:- Phil “has the option of getting this made up by a Scandinavian Orienteering clothing manufacturer called ‘Trimtex’. It is basically an Orienteering top made of a light, stretchy fabric – perfect for Autumn and Spring (and Summer, if this last one is anything to go by!). Not sure of the price yet, but likely to be £20-£30, so not cheap. Needs a minimum order of ten. IIf you decide you want one, phil.winskill@gmail.com, , I will state the size that fits me and you can work from that (I haven’t put on weight since moving away…).
