Lakeland Classics – after Three Shires
We may have to settle for 2nd Team, behind Borrowdale – but Ambleside have crept up with a big Three Shires result, to be joint 2nd.
A very strong set of individual Series results- Janet – 5th : John Hunt – 8th : Joe – 11th : Mike – 12th : Bob Johnston – 15th : Matt – 16th : DT – 32nd : Mick Cochrane – 45th : Nicky – 46th, and hoping that Ashley and Roy can do Langdale to add to these completions.
Three Peaks Cyclo Cross….Russell has “been up in the Dales as well this weekend watching the 3 peaks cyclo-cross. Top places dominated by fell runners again- Rob Jebb won for the 7th time in succession. Not sure of the other positions yet, but other notable running names riding were Nick Craig, Andy Peace, Phil Hinchliffe, Ian Holmes, John Henegan, Tim Austin, Robin and Darrell Bradbury, Kev Saville. Full results
Thieveley Pike Results:- Greg had “a quick trip up north to remind myself of the scenery” – and an invigorated Mike Pedley back in action.
DT – why venture into Lancashire and Clayton territory when you can come to sunny Yorkshire – or does the organiser even manage to have the sun shining at Burnley (which is more than the Tour organiser ever provides….).
I’m reliably informed that “the sun always shines for Thieveley – as it does on the whole of Lancashire. I note that you had to abandon Yorkshire for a run – or has Dent moved from Cumbria?”…..
Nine Edges Event – Steve Matthews sends:- “Only 2 brown vests I saw at yesterday’s 9 Edges were myself and Si Phipps. We battled it out in front of the rest of the field from the start down to Burbage where a proper runner overtook us, although Si (having left me a long way behind by this stage) got back into the lead at Longshaw when this gentleman decided to take a detour to visit the ducks (or was it to get an ice cream from the van?). A few speedier types overtook us eventually however, including the eventual winner Warwick Newton, but Si still got 2nd MV behind Andrew McDermott. 1st lady was Amanda Crundall. A really friendly event in great weather run in aid of Edale MRT, with the added bonus of a ‘free’ pint in the Robin Hood at the end. Apologies to any Dark Peak I didn’t recognise.”
Scafell Pike Results:- with Mike 4th, and Hazel 1st lady.
Rab MM Results:- lots of names here, you’ll need to sift through them all, and the categories…
Whernside Results:- Another most welcome addition to the Calendar. 12ml, 3000ft from Dent, one of the most scenic Dales villages going. A superb setting. It wanders across to Whernside, but climbs from the North, and is all runnable – yes! a runnable Whernside. At the trig point, instead of wobbling out as we do on Three Peaks, sharp right into a classic grassy fell descent. Another hill further across west, then down fields to the village. New organisers had put huge effort into re-instating the race, maps, marshals, back-up, etc, and deserve huge credit. Tried and tested sticky labels would help the results system. Mostly runnable, some excellent fell stuff, some tedious tracks and trails, with a long road out onto the fell.
I wasn’t expecting company, but Trevor Milner appeared, as did Tom Edwards with the winner, Matthew Speake – ahead of the Borrowdale cohorts, that’s going some. Results will await their website.
This is the back, west side of Whernside, the Kingsdale road from Ingleton to Dent is impressive, much quieter than the Horton side.
Mentioning new AL races, seems we need to look out for a companion to the Anniversary Waltz next year, “somewhere between 13 /14.25 miles and 5600′ /6600′ “
And this is Aye Gill Pike, N of the village, and expected to be a Short English Championship race next year. Along, up the front slope, touch the trig and back down. Very steep!
Hope Valley MTB – someone will have to find results, etc
Vasque Series Pumlumon …
