Kendal Winter League:-Barbondale Fell Race. Sun. A fantastic out and back race set in a peaceful valley east of a line between Sedbergh and Kirkby Lonsdale. The race starts with an immediate, unforgiving climb which eventually eases to quick runnable ground along the top to the checkpoint at Castle Knott. Turn around here and head back, take a deep breath at the top of the steep descent and go for it (300m in a little over 700m!) The trick at the finish is not to end up in the river which is only 3m away. Tim 2nd, Mike 6th.
Chatsworth Chase:- (for Lost Property – see Comments…). Trevor Milner superbly keeps the results service going:- “ A glorious day at the southern tip of the dark peak on the Chatsworth estate. A new, well marshalled race took a lung busting lane/ green lane up to the edge of Beeley Moor then back into the woods above the house, where Ron experienced Newtons 3rd law of motion when gravity got the better of him. Then a short steep zig zag up to the hunting tower [which is available as a holiday let] then on towards Chatsworth edge, at this point I think most realised this is longer than 5.75 miles [turned out to be 7.1miles] then descend to the meadows and back past the house to Calton Lees. For me this last 2miles being flat was a bit of a drag, it would of been nice to go up to the woods either side of the valley then have a downhill finish, but many might disagree. Thanks to Zoe and the marshals for putting
on the race and the local fare prizes. I think if there’s enough interest it might be run again – I’m sure feelings could be mentioned at the Pilsley race.”
Loxley M.M . Comments ? Results, report etc on DP Results.
A note of thanks from Amanda Howard:- “Ross and I managed to ‘gate crash’ a superb party on Sunday morning, we would like to say a huge thankyou to Richard for a fantastic race. The weather was perfect and the views where stunning, we enjoyed the low key, light hearted fun aptmosphere, and the simplistic scoring system. Ross’ final score was 15, not 19 as in the results. Thanks for a great day”.
