“After nearly 40 years I have made a decision to bow out of putting on most of my races. It was back in 1984 that the Cakes of Bread /Crookstone /Margery began. As a founder of the FRA back in 1970 I felt that the area was ripe for proper fell races, when I came to Sheffield in 1982, other than the traditional village races.

The Cakes today, followed by Summer/Winter Crookstones will be my last as R.O., though I hope to run races in the future [as long as Harmerian in design !]. I intend to continue as Arch Druid [The Captain] in energising the Slow Warts with adventures for a while yet.

I will of course hang on to the Hunter night race, who will pick up that legacy! and maybe the Olympic race [Blackden Beast].

It has been a treat and honour to organise at least 7 club champs as well as the races mentioned and it was grand to win the classics mentioned but I will be 75 just before the winter Crashout and it’s time for other club members to take the take on the races.”
