As we enter the final few days before the British Fell and Hill Relay Championships, the club would like to say a huge ‘Thank You’ to all the Dark Peak members who have worked so hard for so long to make it happen, and who have volunteered to help on the day.
We are proud and humbled to know that we will have no fewer than 173 volunteers in and around the Derwent valley on Saturday, plus a good few of our athletes who have said they will muck in before and after their runs to make sure no task is left undone. That is a phenomenal response. Thank you so much!
Thanks too to the Runners Against Rubbish team who braved foul weather on Sunday to recover two large vehicles full of rubbish from the surrounding area. The assorted crap that was festering in beauty spots and heading for our water supply is now gracing skips at Sheffield’s recycling centres.
This is by far and away the most demanding event that the club has ever staged. Our organising group has several team/task leaders who have been individually contacting you all to let you know what we are asking of you on Saturday. Many of you will be marshalling on the hills, others will be directing people into the car park, onto coaches, off the coaches and along to the Event Centre, and much more.
It’s a huge team effort, and every single person is a vital cog in the bigger machine. We hope you are all happy and clear re your tasks. Please forgive us if by some oversight you have volunteered but have not yet heard what we would like you to do. If that is the case, please email Tim Tett as race organiser as a matter of urgency and he will do his best to rectify things quickly.
Please remember that the event is going ahead on the strict understanding that we will not take over the Fairholmes car park and thereby leave no space for people who will be going out to enjoy the national park as usual. If you are volunteering, or perhaps simply coming along to watch, please park well away from the visitor centre, or better still use your bike or run over from a further-flung parking location.
A reminder that full information about the event can be found on the dedicated website that we’ve set up: https://britishfellrelays2019.org.uk/
Thanks again for your efforts, folks. Here’s to a wonderful day, brilliant weather, and at least one victory for the home team!
