It is with great sadness that the club announces the passing of its founder and early guiding star, Chris Worsell.
Chris died peacefully at his home in Lodge Moor earlier this week at the age of 77 after a short but severe illness.
The club owes its existence to Chris and to the small bunch of fellow ‘founding fathers’ who gathered in his house in 1976 to give life to it. Dark Peak’s rapid growth to fell running prominence was in so many ways the result of Chris’s resourcefulness, energy and irrepressible humour.
Chris’s family are now making arrangements for his funeral. They ask that attendance is restricted to family and friends. They are working with the club to organise a wake and commemorative run from The Sportsman at which all club members will be welcome. Details to follow.
Anybody who wishes to make a gesture in Chris’s memory is invited to donate to the Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity, which was close to the family’s heart. Donations can be made via this JustGiving page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/darkpeak-do…
