RIP Eric Mitchell, DPFR club president from day one in 1976 until yesterday, when he died peacefully in a Buxton nursing home after a short illness at the age of 94. All who knew Eric will remember him as a source of inspiration, an athletic miracle-maker with a limitless sense of adventure, and as simply one of the nicest and most cheerful people you would ever meet on the hills. He’s pictured here breezing round the Three Peaks race in 1980 with that ever-present smile on his face. Eric is survived by his wife Edna, his daughter and Dark Peak member Jan Cave and her sister Lynne, and by his three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. His family will advise the club of funeral arrangements once they are known.
