A little bird tells me that Big Bob Berzins, our most distinguished club access (or is it environment?) officer, quietly completed his last Munro a week or two back; like the vast majority, I suspect, unaccompanied by any other human. My informant wasn’t quite sure which his final summit was, but could report that Bob’s least favourite Munro was Ben Lomond, due to the teeming hordes of Glaswegians on the hill. Only fitting, I suppose, that our pioneering solo completer of many a long day out should so quietly tick off his last big Scottish Hill … but we’re not letting it pass totally unremarked, Bob – many congratulations, young man (or should that be you miserable old sociopath?). And was that the sound of a tree falling I just heard?
