Many congratulations to Charlie Elliot, Simon Mills, Mikk Murray, Sarah Jones-Morris (Penistone) and William Marks (Mourne Runners – Northern Ireland), on their successful completion of the round this DP BG weekend. All five completed with consummate ease (to the extent this is ever true) and good humour – and with so much time in hand that a number of us were back in the pub in Thornthwaite, fed, watered and showered (please note, Ms Batty), some time before 6.45pm.

Notwithstanding the determined efforts in recent years of Dave McGuinness, Mike Bourne and – this year – Simon Mills, Mike Robinson’s post-round pints record remains unequaled. Indeed the support and encouragement Simon received in his (beer drinking) attempt from Sally, Adi and his brothers was quite something to behold, and surely far exceeded the support he’d received on the hill … so much so that certain more aged members of the club (no names, I promise, Mr Westgate) positively blanched at the prospect that our new found post-round hostelry’s carpets were about to receive an impromptu redecoration. Fortunately Simon had the (seven pints down) good sense to call it a day one pint short of the venerable Robinson’s record. Here’s hoping Sally and Adi will get over their disappointment some time in the next decade.

Is it possible then that this is one record even Jasmin Paris would struggle to beat?
