The bus departs at 09:00 from outside the Leadmill on Sunday 8th May. It works its way via Hillsborough to Langsett Barn. You are invited to get on the bus from the Leadmill or en route and thus join the race. The route takes most folk upwards of 4hours. You will need to be totally self sufficient in the mountain terrain, carry all appropriate navigation equipment and know how to use it, full FRA and additional emergency survival kit, dry clothing and money for the Railway café and return train from ……. Edale back to Sheffield. Last year it was cold & wet & some runners did get hypothermic. There will be no gear checks as the responsibility is yours alone. There will be no support en route although if you are lucky (I have not asked yet) there will be a (Di rather than Richard) Hakes Cake at Oyster Clough cabin.
The route is one way following a natural line? across the wilderness part of the peak with plenty of rough running. The “straight line” distance is about 17 miles. The check points will be Mickleden Pond, the small pond that is the Doodlebug crash site under Outer Edge, Cold Side Oaks crags, Wall / stream junction in Ridge Clough above Slippery Stones, Scout memorial stone in Alport, Oyster Cabin, Snake Inn, Kinder summit, Grindslow Ponds, to the finish at Edale station café.
Experienced runners will no doubt look after themselves whereas less experienced people who are not confident are encouraged to team up with people who are.
We need a quorum of about half a dozen runners (less is more?) so please let me know if you want to run via e mail (tom.westgate@hrsservices.co.uk) or telephone me on 07734 066 386. The bus only takes so many so the size of the field will be limited.
PS can the last bod through Oyster cabin bring back the sign in sheet & cake tin please.
