With more women than men, some fairly uneven pairings and Darrell unable to stand up straight on Saturday after doing his back in I wasn’t too hopeful of getting in the mixed team prizes!
At 6.30am Sunday after attending a cyclo cross dinner and only 4 hours sleep I was wondering why I keep getting involved with organizing these teams! However it was such a stunning day it was impossible not to enjoy it. Mike and I finished 3rd mixed team on leg 1 and handed over to Simon and Darrell (who was at least now standing up straight but had struggled to run across the car park at 8.00am), they still managed to gain quite a few places and moved us up to 2nd mixed, we then had 2 all girl legs with Kirsty and Channah and Philippa and Jo doing a great job and holding our position.
Luckily the leading mixed team Pudsey didn’t have Gary Devine and John Henegan on leg 5 this year and Mick and Janet cruised past their pair (amongst others) to put in a fantastic last leg (9th fastest of the day) so we won the mixed team prize!!
A huge thanks to everyone for turning up, it was a great team effort. As ever this event was a really well organized friendly affair with prizes for first 3 teams in each category plus fastest leg prizes so we were well chuffed to come away with a £20 Pete Bland voucher each!
