His support consisted of Helen Elmore and Tim Rippon on Leg 1, Mark Townsend and Helen Elmore on Leg 2, me and Tim Whittaker on Legs 3 and 4. The weather was perfect. Very dry, sunny but a strong cooling wind. Tim R was too late arriving to support Leg 1 so Helen gallently set off as sole supporter at 7.30am. They were 10 minutes down arriving at Kirkstone but looking good. Keith set off at a blistering pace on Leg 2 and maintained schedule to arrive 10 mins down at Dunmail. Loaded up with water and food we set off up Steel Fell and were quietly glad that Keith went through a bad patch all the way to Bowfell. We dropped another 10 mins but it was still do able and Keith was coming round. Across to Styhead he consistantly picked up the pace and from Gable to the finish we were gaining on the schedule. We ran down to Greendale at 7.01pm – Keith completed in 11 hours and 31 minutes. Fantastic achievement.

For a fuller report, see Nicky’s news page here.

It appears normal order was restored on Monday evening, when Keith was beaten to the wire by a much younger man at Orrell’s Snail, giving the rest of us some cause for hope.

Congratulations to Dark Peak’s very own portrait of Dorian Gray, the ever young Mr Keith Holmes, who – shunning the 15 hour schedule which befits his age – cantered around the Joss Naylor in 11 hours 31 mins on Saturday, significantly under the time limit for rather younger gentlemen. Nicky […]

[3

post-934","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-news
["GET
