About a year and a half ago now Dark Peak was contacted by a coach, Kirk Flatow, from Monta Vista High School, San Jose, California. Kirk was asking for advice and recommendations in order to plan a trip for some of the school’s athletic team alumni. I replied with a brief idea of what races were available in the UK but also suggested that if they want to try something different then maybe a fell race would be fun? I also sent across the Dark Peak Pertex film as a bit of an insight into what we do.
I think this must have captured the Californian’s sense of adventure and so they decided a fell race would be a great idea.
Many more emails were exchanged and only this year have plans started to materialise. In a few days a group of about 15 alumni are traveling over to stay in Ashford in the Water and also compete in Grindleford fell race on Thursday the 15th of June. They will be around for about 2 weeks and are also keen to attend a Dark Peak run and further explore the Peak District.
I’m sure as a club Dark Peak will welcome the group and help show them what the local area is like as well as what fell running is about.<\/p>\n

Here are a few dates to note:
Thursday 15th June – Grindleford Fell Race – Entries are full but support on route would be great!
Sunday 18th June – Social Run – An easy run probably on Kinder or Around the Derwent Edge area to show what the Dark Peak has to offer.
Wednesday 21st June – Club Run – Birchen Clough so again a showcase of the Dark Peak probably including the firebreak, Alport and Over Wood Moss? Hopping for a good turnout and some socialising in the pub afterwards. <\/p>\n
