The land here is owned by the National Trust but it was the shooting tenants who requested improvements to access. All this land is a highly protected SSSI and Natural England who hold overall responsibility for conservation, agreed to the work. Whether the work turned out as expected is hotly debated, but what we are left with is appalling, given the sensitive nature of this land. Of particular concern to me was the amount of spoil thrown down the hillside and at the sheepfold clough end, cutting through unstable areas of shale on the upslope, but most of all, losing a green unobtrusive route up the valley. Apparently the shooting tenants think the track will revert to nature soon enough, if you think differently, please complain to the National Trust at simon.wright@nationaltrust.org.uk and if you’d like to keep the Peak Park informed, copy your email to the Access Officer Mike.Rhodes@peakdistrict.gov.uk

Bob Berzins

The pleasant green trod up Abbey Brook has been bulldozed out of existence and replaced by a gash up the hillside.
