The Tug of War is an aside to what I’m sure will be a very enjoyable social event, to which I would encourage as many people as possible to attend with their partners. Those attending the Club Dinner last year will vouch for the quality of food and beer at The Cross Scythes and the service provided by the staff. Judging by the banter I’ve had to endure so far, and the fact we are the largest club in attendance, the other clubs are gunning for us, and as Chairman, I will be hugely disappointed if we get beaten by either a club consisting largely of our wives, a load of fat blokes or a club of roadies.

Please contact the Chairman by mail as soon as possible to confirm attendance.

Dear Club Reps,

I’m e-mailing to invite you and your clubs to take part in a fun Tug-O-War event at the back of the Cross Scythes Inn, Totley on Friday 8th September
from 7pm – first ‘Pull-Off’ at 7.30pm. We are calling the event ‘The Totley Tug’ and we are hoping for the four clubs of Totley, Dark Peak, Striders
and Fat Boys to be involved. There will be the following tug categories on the night:

Mens team event 8 men per team

Womens team event 8 women per team

Mixed team event 8 men, women or other (any combination)

If any club wants to enter more than one team in any event that will be fine and we’ll find a way of accommodating that – and we don’t mind people doubling up across different events. There is an ideal long patch of grass to have the ‘pull-offs’ and plenty of parking, though the 97 bus stops right outside the door of the pub and runs until 11.30ish at night. The landlord, Andy, is putting on a BBQ in the beer garden next to the tugging strip specially for the event. He also maintains a fine selection of real ale and other beverages and is a family friendly pub. If your club would like to participate then please can you let me know asap.

If you want to peruse Tug-O-War rules and a guide to training a new team then visit The Tug of War Association

Best wishes and happy tugging,

Clive Waddington
Totley AC Social Secretary

Please note this event has been CANCELLED Andrew Moore writes – DPFR have been invited to the event below.
