Meet organiser Lewis Ashton writes “Traditionally, this weekend has been well attended by DPFR members, young and less-young. The accommodation is mixed dormitories in a mountaineering club hut. Youth is a (somewhat) flexible notion… and so is running for that matter! The high ideals of this meet are to give younger runners the opportunity to spend some time running in bigger hills to gain experience, to explore new places and maybe to do something a bit more technical than a splash through a Pennine bog. This has been very successful in the past, and has drawn in new members at each meet. Notwithstanding the “youth” tag, the meet is open to all runners; experienced heads and legs are as important a part of the development process as neophyte enthusiasm and athleticism. The down side is that I’d hope anyone over 30 would buy the beers for those under 30; The up side is this might slow them down! So come along and meet the new generation! The plan is to have a number of groups on each day catering for plans and ambitions that range across: a bit of reccying; a run and scramble over something technical; or a trot over a few tops. Inevitably the weather will be glorious, opening up wonderful possibilities. 16 & 17 year olds are welcome, but they will need to be accompanied by a responsible adult for both accommodation and on the hill. Good winter running and survival kit will be a must, as are full studs. Some personal and group emergency equipment can be found for loan if you let me know beforehand. Saturday night, there will be a communal vegetarian meal.”

Past races

Great Hucklow

Neil Northrop was back in the winner’s enclosure and, with teammates Adam Hayden and Austin Frost, should also have carried off the prize for first male team.
