Save Longstone Edge Group will be holding an
\nextraordinary public meeting next Tuesday, 8 April to
\nbrief their supporters and members of the public on
\nthe current situation. It will be at Calver Village
\nHall, 7.30pm and all are welcome. <\/p>\n
Last April, after a lengthy Public Inquiry, a Planning
\nInspector ensured that the vast majority of Longstone
\nEdge was saved from being quarried for aggregate.
\nInevitably, the landowner appealed against the
\ndecision and the judge decided to allow the appeal,
\ngranting Bleaklow Industries carte blanche to quarry
\nLongstone Edge to destruction.<\/p>\n
In only one day, a judge has single-handedly
\noverturned the decision of a public inquiry that took
\nweeks. During that public inquiry, the planning
\ninspector heard and considered evidence from all
\nsides. During the High Court hearing, the judge simply
\nheard arguments from the solicitor representing the
\nquarry operators and solicitors for the Peak Park and
\nthe Treasury. <\/p>\n
