The weather must have been very cool as Andy Moore actually put a vest on, the rest of us had at least a thermal. The Start was fun with one dark peaker racing down the road in the wrong direction to get to the start on time after forgetting his vest, no guess work required to work out who it was though as his reputation for late arrivals goes before him… In the end the Slurry and river weren’t as deep as usual but the fields were killers on tired legs. Pete Vale won in just over 2 hours with a big lead over Dave Taylor 2nd and 1st Vet. 8th was Nick Kirk. The next set of Brown vest had a race all by themselves with Martin Stocks leading the way up Shuttingsloe by a good 200m from Ashley with me 20 metres behind and Gavin a similar distance back. The 3 of us had a bit of a battle on the run back, With all three of us passing first 1 then 2 until we had passed 5 runners, Gavin then broke clear over the Roaches and myself finally getting passed a flying Ashley. On the descent Martin popped in to view, Gavin just got through and I managed to get within 10m when we hit the slurry, Martin’s 9 stone skipped lightly over the top leaving me wallowing with heavy tired legs. So this the little Dark Peak Race finished with us all coming in within a couple minutes of each other around the 2.28-30 mark. 17th Gavin, 18th Martin, 19th Ian, 20th Ashley. Thanks to the other 3 as it made me work far too hard. Plenty of other Dark Peakers out there but they didn’t have all the results out when I left. DP were 2nd team .

Dark and White MM (1) – results.http://www.darkandwhite.co.uk/results/RabMMMEdaleShortCourse.html – Edale.

Tour of Pendle:- Very hard, serious conditions all around Pendle – cold, rain, hail. Good to meet up with our travellers, and suffer Willy’s welcome abuse as he shot off up the hillside….
Marshalling makes us realise how much work goes into putting on any race, all voluntary, and just about everyone mentioned words of thanks as they passed, and that was very much appreciated. Many runners took the offered nourishment, which makes me wonder whether we take enough spare food on hard races? Wise runners had put on their spare clothing, the old trick of keeping warm before any bad weather really sets in.
The early start seemed such a good idea, but caused problems with results, so we’ll wait for the Clayton website.
