Kirsty, Dave and I accompanied Mick and Kenny (who are planning to have a go in June) on what turned out to be a great 3 days despite the bad forecast.  You can split the round neatly into 3 sections (with a long first day) using the Grasmere and Wasdale YHA\u2019s so only a small amount of kit needs to be carried and you can buy all your meals. Highly recommended if you fancy a go at the BG for getting to know the route and an idea of the kind of pace you need to go at.  Here\u2019s a photo on Day 1.”<\/font><\/p>\n

Mearley Clough:- 3.5ml, 1200ft – another AS classic. For those who know the Tour of Pendle, it takes the second of those steep final slogging climbs. \"mcloughh\"<\/a> A different village start, Worston, some fields along to open fell, slog up and shift back down again. \u00a33.50 for the race – but including a sit-down pasta meal in the local pub. Like so much associated with Clayton, they put on a good event, with a right good atmosphere to it all.

Blackstone Edge results<\/a>  <\/font>I’d not expected anyone there, but Jan had made the trip, 36th in 39.02.<\/font><\/p>\n

Latrigg results:-<\/a> A notable win for Phil:-<\/font> “<\/font>Short and sharp, just how I like ’em! A fair sized field (not Peak race proportions).  A blast from Fitz Park following a direct up Latrigg – VERY steep, than back down a  similar way.  Kenny did it in 17 mins in ’84, I did it in 18:53.  Don’t think he has to worry about that record being broken!  We all had Buttermere in our legs, bar Steve. Clearly mine were not as tired as Scoff’s!

Buttermere Sailbeck. results<\/a>..  Mike’s report.”L<\/span><\/span><\/span>uckily the weather turned kind for the race on Sunday as the previous week and on Saturday especially it had been somewhat wet and windy.  On Saturday I was starting to worry about parking as I walked around the designated field with the surrounding hills completely masked by torrential rain and water squelching over my wellies.  As it was, we ran in near perfect conditions, good visibility, mild, not too windy and a bit of give underfoot. I was impressed by another good Dark Peak turnout in The Lakes, with 3 featuring in the top 10.  The team prize was very close with Borrowdale just edging us out. Next year we hope to stage the race on Saturday for the first time.  This would allow people to be able to make more of a weekend of it and to also avoid the traffic chaos caused by the Fred Whitton Cycle Challenge. A big thanks must go to all the Dark Peakers who helped out, none of them had planned to, they just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.  Dave and Cath for giving up a couple of hours on Saturday evening to put up the marquee, Al for helping with the results and Ryan, Rich and John for helping with the dismantling.”<\/p>\n

Jack Bloor Races:-<\/font> “A record turnout of 230 including one brown vest – Tom Edwards who took 3rd place overall!
Lizzie Adams (Knavesmire) won the women’s for the second year and Graham Pearce (Pudsey and Bramley) took the men’s.
We also had over 120 juniors racing – from 6 year olds to 16!

Pendle Cloughs: results<\/a> – <\/font>a really good, hard trip round. A race to look out for. We started from Downham, rather than Barley, and went up, round, over, across, back up, back round until we finished. Much more navigational than the Tour, but a change of Pendle scenery. Just down before the rain set in.<\/font>
