Lad’s Leap Results<\/a>\u00a0<\/a>:- <\/font>Photos<\/a> from Glossop, and from <\/font>Hayfield.<\/a>\u00a0 Most welcome news from Andy Moore:- “Glorious day for racing – a stiff breeze but vest and shorts was favoured by many competitors (well 4 of us!). This year we ascended through the quarry and it was very heavy underfoot, especially the trudge by the fence before and the climb after the quarry. Lloyd won by a fair distance. Phil would have been 2nd but for some ‘plumbing problems’ so coasted round to finish 3rd. Jim Bell was well placed, so I’m sure we got first team. Rocket Ron showed a welcome return to form on ground more suited to him than me – come back Chatsworth! I have to question Ian Winterburn’s sanity in competing the day after Wuthering Hike (or even doing the Wuthering Hike) but he finished strongly with a wince. Unfortunately we left before receiving race reports from
\nPaddy Kenny\/John Gunnee and Richard as Phil wanted to swat for his job interview.

Winter Mondays<\/a><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font> “Around 10 people turn up for the final Monday night. A short\u00a0social race was run which\u00a0was surprisingly fast, won not surprisingly by Nick with Ian Charlesworth 2nd. <\/font>We\u00a0Retired to the Castle pub where presentation were made in the form of Home made fruit cakes by Nickys fair hand to all competitors who turned up. Nicky was\u00a0given a bunch of flowers for\u00a0hosting and organising the winter Mondays which all agreed was beneficial. <\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font>There was some talk of a summer evening fell series, watch this space….”
\nDT:- A deserved thanks to Nicky for all this, and to all the runners involved. All the results, race details etc are on the link. Hopefully something similar next year? A fell series will be useful, the races and courses are available from previous years. But I don’t feel right in holding it together from up north… <\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

\u00a0Wuthering Hike Results<\/a>:- <\/font>A long day out, with Joe finishing a very high 10th. Ian sends” I think we had the best of the weather with a light cool breeze and only a little mist, and about 5\/10 minutes drizzle. A very strong field with over 300 runners, but 50 of them were pairs.33miles-5700ft measured by Garmin on route. This is the first race in the newly re-named Vasque Ultra Marathon Championships. I thought Mick and myself were going well when Nicky cruised past near the end. The trails were very hard on the feet but it was a good well supported event.”

\n<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font><\/font>Really Wild Boar:- This was the essence of genuine fell running, at it’s very best and basic. We parked in this field, in the middle of somewhere. Registered through the van window, facilities nil, then lined up and set off. A good track up towards Wild Boar Fell, near Sedbergh, and into the mist. Like DPFR events, it was round CP3, the row of cairns, unmanned. Navigation around the plateau caused problems, runners all over the top, and a classic unpathed drop down. At the finish the results depended on the honesty of the runners, as to whether they’d gone wrong. Nobody seemed to care, prizes were awarded in a nearby pub, mistakes were put right – a classic recommended AS race. Don’t know if a version of the results will ever appear, but who’s bothered. We all had a good trip.
