\n<\/font>\u00a0Bochum:- <\/font>This is a city within the Ruhr, twinned with Sheffield. There are many similarities, huge coalfields now worked out and steel works no longer in use. Trying to come to terms with it all, industrial museums, regeneration etc. The river Ruhr flowing through, like the Don in South Yorkshire. Hardly touristy, but nice friendly people. Christmas Markets in full swing. A most impressive co-ordinated transport system, with one ticket letting you use trams, buses , trains – invariably on time. There is a Sheffield Ring Road, like we have Bochum Parkway – but not many other signs of twinning.
\n<\/font>C<\/font>yclists v harriers. A report here<\/a><\/font>\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0, <\/font><\/font>no results yet. Were Lynn and Darryl there? Indeed they were – “More people than I have ever seen at this event. Apparently those at the front of the field had to negotiate a herd of cows in the last field! Despite the farmer helping the cyclists by putting some concrete slabs down where they used to sink up to their axles in mud the harriers were still victorious. I won a bottle of Rioja for 3rd<\/sup> lady runner but missed an opportunity to win the cycling as the only lady punctured early on! Darrell was just outside the top 10 runners so luckily didn\u2019t count in the overall competition saving himself even more grief from the Yorkshire cyclo-cross contingent who booed him for running!! \u00a0Pie and peas at the presentation in the pub after made as always for a really fun event, well worth a go if you have never done it.”
