As those who have read their DP News \u2013 or can count \u2013 will know, 2016 heralds the fortieth anniversary of the formation of Dark Peak Fell Runners. Our esteemed (ish) chair is plotting a number of events to recognise this questionable landmark.In the meantime, the calendar and webmaster have put their heads together to come up (for this year only) with the anniversary 40@40 league \u2013 forty club races with like-minded brown vests which will take you to all corners of the Dark Peak in search of bog, heather and occasional sunshine.<\/p>\n
No limit on counting races, so if you run all forty you get points for all forty; with points awarded for your position in the race (so nothing to do with winner’s time on this occasion). For example, if there are twelve DP starters (non-members don’t count), the winner scores 12 points, second gets eleven etc. with last place getting one point.If there are thirty starters, then the winner scores 30, second 29 etc.DNFs score nowt.<\/p>\n
The webmaster’s turned around his beta-algorithm in double-quick time so the league should be up and running in time for the first counter at Grindleford on New Year’s Day. You’ll find the list of all twenty-eight races provisionally in the mix below. We’ll make the numbers up to forty using some or more of the dozen summer series races yet to be scheduled \u2013 but it’d be good also if we can resurrect some dormant DP classics for the anniversary so that not all of the summer series may count.<\/p>\n
The chair’s muttering about the Rivelin Skyline; it’d also be good to see the Burbage Nuts, Headstone Headache and Loxley International Mountain Marathon, amongst others, back on the menu. The calendar will therefore be pleased to hear from any prospective ROs willing to put\/take on any of these classics, or indeed to suggest other similarly silly ventures. He’ll also be in touch with individual ROs listed below to discuss dates shortly. We’ll confirm the final running order and dates as soon as we can. In the meanwhile, the dates for the first few counters are listed below (and note we’ve chosen to leave out the Burbage and Edale Skylines since many members will be marshalling at these races and thus unable to compete).<\/p>\n
In the event of confusion, dispute or straightforward stupidity, the calendar and webmaster’s determinations will be final \u2013 with the chair to be called upon only if we can’t agree our collective position over a pint of blonde or similar. Prize giving for the series as a whole to be hosted at 33 Bents Drive following the 2016 Boxing Day Bogtrot, assuming Marilyn and the venerable Roy are willing. We’ll certainly stump up separate mens’ and womens’ prizes \u2013 and possibly other category prizes too. <\/p>\n
