Will Northrop sail to the ale again, or is there a new set of navigational whiz kids ready to mount a challenge? The first race features an entirely new set of control locations, designed to pose a fair amount of macro navigation choice, while also requiring attention to detail as you home on your destinations. It should provide an enjoyable fell race in its own right, while also testing your map and compass skills. It’s a wild and hilly route with a fairly mountainous character, and a reasonable mix of runnable and rough. Hopefully it should provide something to satisfy all tastes in the club. Format as usual: please arrive at Burbage Bridge car park in good time to register and be ready to collect your map revealing the route five minutes before the 6:45 start.Entry for this first one will be £1, and we’ll see how far that goes in covering printing and the cost of the Woodhead Mountain Rescue Ale prizes. If it’s too little, it’ll have to go up next time; if it turns out to be too much, I’ll donate any surplus to the rescue team. There’ll also be a few plastic map covers for people who don’t yet have them, sold at cost for 50p. Look forward to seeing you all there.

DH

…they’re lurking in various nooks and crannies around Burbage, ready for rivalries to resume when the new series of Sharpeners gets underway on Wednesday.
