Sir William Hill / Abney Moor

  • Date and time: Wednesday 23rd April 2025, 6:45pm
  • Event type: Club run
  • Start point: Top of Sir William Hill at sharp bend.
  • Grid ref: SK225780
  • What3Words: ///segmented.dummy.buns
  • Distance: 14 kilometres
  • Climb: 480 metres

Park at the top of Sir William Hill above Grindleford, either on the grass verge or bottom of the byway. From here we’ll head north east across Eyam Moor down to Highlow Brook and then turn right after the little footbridge. Up through Oaks farm across Abney Moor, along the bridleway track to Robin Hood’s Cross, then south to Abney Grange and a slidey descent on to Bretton Brook. Follow this all the way down in to Bretton Clough, then one of the footpaths (1 of 3) up to Bretton, then follow the byway back to the start.

For those wanting a longer outing (which may require faster running) the suggested extension is to head NNE from cairn at SK203802 (fp junction) to Offerton Hall, then rejoin the outlined route via the byway / TV mast, or go freestyle up Old Clough.

Sir William Hill Inn in Grindleford for post run discussion and rehydration.
