Margery Hill Race 2025

RO Tom Brunt.

This is a long early season winter classic first run in 1985 and considered
by many connoisseurs to be one of the finest DPFR club races. It’s highly recommended, very
challenging (particularly in adverse weather conditions – the 2022 edition was a classic of the
genre!) and unmarshalled. Beware of Abbey Brook – although often a trickle it can be a torrent.
Full FRA kit as a minimum, but add extra layers according to conditions. Survival blanket or bivi
bag strongly recommended in poor conditions. All runners must sign in at the start and declare
themselves at the finish, even those who have dropped out mid-race. If you hit trouble on the
course it is generally advisable to head west for the reservoir track.

  • There will be 3 official start times, slow at 0830, medium at 0900 and quick at 0930.
  • Thawing out / de-briefing / prize-giving etc. in the Yorkshire Bridge, Bamford

Be aware of walkers, café customers etc etc at the start and end of the race as this area can get
busy and most people won't be expecting runners charging through with the bit between their
teeth! (Is anyone still “charging” at the end of this race?)
